US envoy parleys with DPM Gachhadar, Dahal

KATHMANDU: The US Ambassador to Nepal, Scott H DeLisi, expressed his concerns over the country’s entrenched political standoff during a meeting with chairman of Unified CPN Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Thursday.


During the meeting held at UCPN-Maoist’s party headquarters at Peris Danda this morning, the two discussed the ongoing government formation process and the US’s recent view on Nepali Maoists, among other contemporary political issues.


DeLisi also expressed his concern over the consequences of the current political impasse on the unfinished task of drafting a new constitution and leading the peace process to a logical end.


The US envoy also met deputy Prime Minister and the chairman of Madheshi Janadhikar Forum –Democratic, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, today.


According to party sources, ambassador DeLisi, in particular, was concerned about the delay in forming an effective government.


During the meeting, DPM Gachchhadar told DeLisi that

the Madhesh-based parties were doing their best to resolve the existing political impasse, the formation of United Democratic Madheshi Front being a step towards that direction.
