Two killed‚ 29 hurt in bus accident

MAHENDRANAGAR: Two passengers were killed and 29 others injured when a bus escorted by police – stranded in the district due to indefinite Far-West bandh – met with an accident at Bhasi area of Kanchhanpur on Friday night.

The ill-fated bus heading to Bajhang from Mahendranagar met with an accident at Bhasi area of Bhimdatta Municipality.

According to the District Police Office, the deceased have been identified as Bashanta Bohara (40) of Bhimdatta Municipality and Suresh Chand (15) of Dadeldhura district. Bohara is a bus owner while Chand was a bus helper.

Critically injured Ashmita Malla (18) of Rail VDC, Bajhang Debika Singh(24) and Dipendra Bista (22) of Deulkot VDC, Keshab Bohara, Lal Bahadur Khadka (16) Birendra Singh (28) and Prem Dhami (62) of Bajhang district were taken to India for treatment, while other injured are receiving treatment at Mahakali Zonal Hospital.

According to police sources, the bus turned turtle on the road while overtaking another vehicle. Bus driver has been absconding following the accident.

Meanwhile, police baton charged locals who reached the incident site to rescue the passengers. Locals Krishna Pandey, Bhupendra Saud and Kaushal Shah have been injured in the police action. The injured claimed that the police baton charged on them when they reached the accident area to rescue the passengers.
