DIPAYAL: School textbooks have not yet reached the hill districts of the far-western region.
Students of Doti, Accham, Bajhang, Bajura and Dadeldhura districts have been visiting bookstores everyday and returning empty-handed. They have no choice but to borrow old books from their seniors.
Sajha publication has its branch office only in Dipayal. Madhav Devkota, chief, Sajha publication Dipayal branch, said they could not ferry the text books to the region due to the prolonged bandh in the far-west region .
Teachers in the area lament that textbooks reach the region only at the end of the academic session every year.
Bijaya Malla, teacher, Ghanteswor Higher Secondary School Jorayal, Doti, said, “Students never receive their textbooks on time so the government’s commitment to provide quality education is only a slogan.”
Another teacher, Khagendra Prasad Ojha from Gadshera of Doti, said lack of textbooks have forced teachers to spend more time on leisurely classes.
Nawaraj Bhandari, a bookstore owner at Dipayal, said they are tired of responding to guardians and students as they were not able to supply the books.
Student from Nirauli area Deepak Thapa said they were compelled to study by guessing due to lack of textbooks.
Officer at far-west education directorate Khagendra Prasad Joshi blamed the prolonged strike for causing short-supply of textbooks.
