Nepali tiger population up by 34 in 2010

KATHMANDU: Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) said on Thursday that the number of tigers in the country has increased by 34 in this year.

Releasing a report to mark the International Tiger Day amid a programme in the capital, the DNPWC claimed that there were 121 adult breeding tigers which have increased to 155 this year.

According to a survey, 125 tigers were found in the Chitwan National Park and the number was 91 last year. Bardia National Park has 18, Suklaphata Wildlife Reserve 8 and Prasa Wildlife Reserve 4 tigers this year.

The survey was conducted by the DNPWC from December 9, 2009 to March 21, 2010.
