NOC revokes bonus plan

Himalayan News Service

KATHMANDU: Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) not to disburse bonus to its employees. In response to a complaint against NOC’s decision to disburse Rs 200 million in bonus to its staff from the profit earned in 2008-09, the anti-graft body has asked the state oil-monopoly to suspend its decision.

Following CIAA directive, NOC decided to altogether revoke the decision of giving away bonus to the staff. CIAA has also asked the ministries concerned to bring in a formal policy for bonus.

To this, now the NOC employees have threatened the management with obstructing supplies of petroleum products in the country, if they don’t receive bonus. “We will obstruct the supply of petroleum products, if the decision of blocking the bonus is not revoked,” a press note from the employees’ association said.

NOC decision of bonus disbursement created an outrage among the general public as the oil-monopoly has recently hiked the price of petrol by Rs 3 and diesel and kerosene by Rs 2.5 per litre.
