KATHMANDU: The establishment faction of Nepali Congress party has authorised parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel to choose candidates for ministerial berths in the new Cabinet.

The move comes after members of the rival Sher Bahadur Deuba faction did not show up at a meeting of the senior leaders called by party president Sushil Koirala to decide on the names.

Koirala, Paudel and Deuba were scheduled to meet today to finalise the names. Deuba refused to attend the meeting stating that the party leadership was not making any attempt to address his concerns although, the Deuba camp has been boycotting the party’s meetings for the past few months.

During today’s meeting of the Koirala faction, the camp took exception to Deuba’s “humiliating” of party president and the Parliamentary Party leader before Unified UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and PM Baburam Bhattarai yesterday in Baluwatar, sources said. President Koirala expressed dissatisfaction over Deuba’s behaviour, the source said.

“When Bhattarai reque-sted the three top leaders to give names by holding consultation there itself, Koirala and Paudel requ-ested Deuba to hold consultations there. In respo-nse, Deuba not only denied the request but also humiliated party leaders saying that he had grievances against the leadership and he cannot talk there,” said senior leader Krishna Chandra Nepali.
