KATHMANDU: A pressure group formed by various Muslim organisations today announced a series of protests, including a Nepal Bandh, demanding recognition in the constitution.
Muslims have been demanding that their identity, rights and representation be guaranteed in the new statute, and a constitutional Muslim Commission be formed. They also want their rights to be enshrined in the constitution like that of women and Dalits.
Muslim Joint Struggle Alliance members said they will stage indefinite sit-in in front of the CA from May 17 and protest in front of all district administration offices and organise nationwide demonstrations from May 17 to 24. It is also enforcing Nepal Bandh from May 20 to 21.
CPN-UML Muslim Lawmaker Rijwan Ansari said that the Muslims of Nepal would not accept a federal structure that favours a particular community.
