SURKHET: The Mid-Western Regional Health Directorate is on high alert to stop diarrhoea spreading from Nepalgunj to hill districts in the region.
It has made adequate arrangement of human resources and vital medicines in Jajarkot, Rukum and Dailekh which were in diarrhoea grip last year.
"Medicines have been sent to all districts to ensure that diarrhoea will not spread this time like that of last year," said Regional Director Dr. Mohammad Daud. "We have also put health workers and more medicines in a ready position."
He said promotional programmes are being organised in remote VDCs that are situated in four to five days of walking distance from district headquarters.
Another directorate official Kedar Parajuli said there is almost daily reporting in Jajarkot, Dailekh, Rukum, Surkhet, Salyan, Dolpa, Dang and Rolpa. "We are on alert," he said.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that contaminated water is the cause of diarrhoea in Nepalgunj, he said. "The disease is slowly coming under control."
We have also directed all districts to adopt all possible measures, he said. Last year more than 400 people died of diarrhoea in Mid-Western Region
