CHAPAGAON: Farmers in southern Lalitpur have begun tea and coffee farming in the fields that used to only grow maize in the past.

Commercial tea cultivation began a few years back after coffee farming in 1986 B.S., coffee farmer Dipak Dahal said.

Tea cultivation has been carried out in the hilly villages of Kaleswar, Chandanpur, Gotikhel, Manikhel and Bukhel in the south of the district.

Many farmers here have been attracted to tea cultivation after an epidemic of diseases hit the traditionally grown maize crop for three continuous years.
