NEPALGUNJ: A passenger boat submerged in Karnali River at Sattaghatti Ghat along Bardiya Patabhar 9 at around 12 pm on Sunday.
At least four persons are reported missing in the river. Police named the missing people as Man Bahadur Tharu, a local resident of Patabhar VDC- 3, Lilu Thapa, Shovan Thapa and Uttam Bahadur Singh local residents of the Pathabhar VDC-9.
Earlier it was reported that at least 8 persons were missing after the incident.
However 21 people managed to save themselves by swimming to safety. According to Sub Inspector Mohan KC of District Police Office Bardiya the boat which was heading from Rajapur of Bardiya to Tikapur of Kailali was overloaded with 29 passengers, exceeding its capacity.
District Head of Bardiya, Beni Madhav Gyawali and police DSP of Surya Prasad Upadhaya were on the spot to rescue the victims.
Efforts are on to rescue the victims. Armed Police, police personnel and locals have been mobilised for the rescue operation.
