Familiar famous faces take home National Film Awards

KATHMANDU: The National Film Awards saw light after a gap of two years when the Film Development Board organised the National Film Award distribution and felicitation ceremony on August 30. The function at Rashtriya Naach Ghar was well attended. Speaker of the Constituent Assembly Subhas Chandra Nembang, Minister of Information and Communication Shankar Pokhrel, directors, producers and artistes of the Nepali film industry graced the occasion.

The awards were presented to the artistes of Nepali film world from the year 2063 BS, 2065 BS and 2066 BS, while at the same time artistes excelling in their field were felicitated by Pokhrel. Speaker Nembang handed the national award to the artistes.

With so many categories, the ones to proudly take home the Award were many familiar and famous figures. Rekha Thapa and Bhuwan KC bagged the best actors awards 2063 BS for Himaat and Duniya respectively, while Shiva Regmi walked away with the best director award for Duniya.

Indigenous films were awarded in a special category for indigenous films in regional languages 2065 BS and 2066 BS.

Melina Manandhar and Tej Bahadur Tamang won the best actors award 2065 BS with Ramkrishna Khadki winning the best director award. Manandhar took home best actress award for 2066 BS as well. Prem Raj Chowdhary won the best actor and Pawan Joshi the best director award for 2066 BS.

The National Film Award for 2065 BS had 18 categories in which the movie Kaha Bhetiyela garnered the most awards in different categories. Sweta Khadka and Aryan Sigdel walked away with the best actors award for Kaha bhetiyela and Mausam maya ko. While Shiva Regmi won the best director award for Kaha Bhetiyela. Anju Pant and Rajesh Pal Rai won the best playback singer awards.

Another 18 categories for 2066 BS saw outstanding movies like Chori gare paap lagla and Das dhunga taking most of the awards. Sanchita Luitel and Anup Baral were awarded the best actors awards for the above mentioned movies. Ujjwal Ghimire bagged the best director award for Chori gare..., which also won the best movie of the year.

A few other movies to win the award for different categories were Mero euta saathi cha, Maian, Jivan mrityu, Alpabiram, Jhakri, Hifajat, among others. The jury award for the best movie 2066 BS was bagged by Das dhunga.

A special category for contribution towards Nepali movie was awarded to Mohan Sharaf. The lifetime achievement award was handed to director-producer Uddap Poudel. He was felicitated with a shawl, citation and a cheque of Rs 2 lakh.

The whole award function ran smoothly with many proud winners holding their awards to their heart. Speaker Nembang ended the programme expressing his best wishes to all the winners saying, “Your dedication and hard work have been finally rewarded.”
