Today, still in this twenty-first century, we are obliged to hear the news of social discriminaion regarding gender inequality. Most of all consider ourself as a civilized human being but when it comes to gender matter, our eyesight are not so far from seeing inhuman behaviour of male towards female in public vechiles, roads and so on.And for the first time in Nepal,Meteropolitian police of Thimi,Bhaktapur has initiated a campaign regarding social discrimination i.e sexual harassment and other abuses against women in public vechiles. This sort of campaign is really a good start and should be launched not only in one city but whole nepal because none of the city is free from such ill-thinking,so-called literate male citizens. However, launching a campaign is not only the solution for such discrimination, for the effective result, each and every citizens should behave as a civilized human being firstly and respect their opposite gender for we all know that one hand is not sufficient for clapping.

as public, if we gather up and can take a bit of action in the crowd and take the culprit to the policemen, this campaign will surely work out. if we citizens gather up guts not only this campaign but many of the pending campaigns can also be continues and get a success. if this campaign turns to work out it will a safer place for women. i hope this campaign gets to the higher level and public will be there to supprt this. atleast i will be there to support.

As being a public bus passenger.I think that until and unless the public bus carry the passengers according to the numbers of seats there will be no any improvement in the public transportation. It is not only related to the problem faced by the women while travelling through public transport like buses. It is also related to the passengers who are physically and mentally able, disabled, old age, sick person etc.In the rush hour the bus became so pack that one cannot get a single steeping step and every passenger are facing the same problem. As relating to the women sexual harassment ,many different types of passenger travel through bus ,their looks, unpleasant dirty words, trying to be near to the women etc are creating a sexual harassment to the women. In order to control this a traffic police department and transport organisation should work together for all round benefit of the public. It has been a more necessity in the present context in the country. I strongly believe that incorporating value based education in the school curriculum is the best way to have a future generation with civic sense and respect for womanhood.Meanwhile, may be there should be separate public vehicles for men and women. This would atleast decrease the crime rate and increase a sense of security among young female students and workers.Women should take a stand and have a voice against whosoever harass them.Gone are the days, when men including the drivers or even the conductors, along with some xyz pervert would be left to roam around freely.I wonder, how the police would screen the cases, but disguising in civil dress and arresting the criminal red handed might just work.We as public just need to play our role as civilized citizens,so that our mothers, daughters or sisters never feel the need of a "Hijab".

Obviously Sexual harassment and other abuses against women should be punishable by law. I have had many time heard about the victims of it, may it be my friend & dear ones. When I hear these I just expect if I were there to bash those people who does these kind of sinful activity. Youths full of dirty mind are always there but to my wonder most of the times it would be somebody who are by age double to us who are found doing this disgusting activities. However, in the current situation where law itself is in a creeping state to find its meaning, I hardly can expect it could really result effective. But I really wish that it come up with a nearest day where women are mentally free to travel in public vehicles. We as a public should be a part of this campaign to make it success. I believe we all are well blessed to have a mother, sister or wife. If we possess a heart to respect them we should have courage to shout out loud against these crimes every time we see something these nonsense is happening.

It is good to find out that police is taking initiatives for which we Nepalese should have stood. It is shame that we ignore, we smile and more importantly we keep quiet at such situations. Because "Who cares? She is not my responsibility". I assume that when our family member gets abused, we are going to supress the news, scold our own sisters rather reporting to the police. This drops me to only one conclusion: Police should have strategies to improve the reporting against the crime. Is Nepal Police addressing this aspect of their campaign? Because without being reported, what action can they take?

It have been always a matter of thinking in this issue of women being abused and sexual harassment by the people who are in the local buses.this is truly the condition we can see in public buses when the co-driver or other man try to do such behavior. The campaign which is recently been launched by the police force may not work sufficiently because this matter is existing every where so public people or the women themselves have to raise their voices against it so that we can contribute something from our side for the success of this campaign. We should not let such this be repeated so that in future such issue need not be heard. We should have believe in this quote "success existence in how you contribute others to live comfortably rather how you live comfortably."

It has been 4 years since I have been using public transportation and as expected I have been facing sexual harassment each n every day. I believe some people use public transportation just to satisfy themselves by touching girls, if it’s not me today then some other girls have been harassed. It is good to see at least someone taking action regarding this issue. I guess now the campaign done by our police would be effective but I believe first the passengers also need to raise their voice. If I raise my voice then other passengers should also support me but it’s the most disappointing fact of our country that seeing someone is being harassed they don’t speak a word. So I request people to speak and raise your voice so that it will add more to the campaign and please everyone support us coz how a girl feels is the feeling which cannot be expressed.

No, I don't think it will be effective. For how long police can save women from being sexually harassed and up to where they can reach and how they will protect the women when they themselves cannot protect the women police. Normal women are much more safer than the women police. To decrease in sexual harassment, it is we the women who have to be strong from inside, have to alert with those incident and must raise voice against those incidents at the same time when these type of incidents occur. Till then these type of campaigns will not be effective.

a good question by THT .I'm one of the common student who gets travel to KTM or PATAN from BKT by the means of local vehicle beside some days. On the way passengers are picked up lust like "cattle".I usually have a sit but on the way most of co-drivers{khalasi} shout to huge crowd of passengers to cover less area in order to pick up more passenger.Though the mass lined to the door he shouts, very roughly.Yeah he comes up passing away the male and female passengers but shows a antique behavior near to girls or lady passengers. He abuses the women passengers by different way.Not only this co-driver of one bus disbehaves to girls of another buses too.But why women hesitates to complain these problem. Its true that nepalese law works very loosely. But this will be a tough task for police.I can't say it will works or not but I fully support this compaign.Lets hope .

Question

The police have launched a special campaign to curb sexual harassment against women in public vehicles. Sexual harassment and other abuses against women are said to be punishable by law. What is your opinion on this campaign? Do you think it will be effective? How can we as public help this campaign be a success?
