For the last few years, cell phones have gained wide popularity in our country. Be it a school going child or a seventy years old man, cell phones seems to be a hot-cake for all. It is irrefutable that introduction of cell phones and the latest reduction of call-tariff have facilitated the communication purpose but its effect on young children has not yet been considered.
There are lot of common complaints from parents about their children spending too much time using their cell phones and shoutings like "if i find u again looking at your phone during your study hours, i will break it into two!!" are frequently heard in almost every house where children are carrying cellphones. Some parents might find it convenient to provide their children with cell phones for security purpose, but in most of the cases, it is the coaxing and insistence from children's side that parents finally purchase cell phones for them. Anyone using GPRS internet over cell phone knows that young children now have access to prurient websites and chat rooms in their hands. Many of them spend sleepless nights chatting on chat sites like mig33 and ebuddy. Needless to say,the conversation during night is usually sexually provocative thereby causing premature curiosities about amorous relationship. The late night chatting and conversing with opposite sex is leading to the degeneration of moral qualities and physical health. A young student, if doesnot sleep well will definitely not be able to concentrate in his studies. This will further lead their future to jeopardy.
Parents/guardians should allow their children to possess a cell phone only after class twelve. They should be at least 18 years old before they are allowed to own their personal phones.
