KATHMANDU: Male machismo stormed the floodlit runway on the fourth day of the TGIF Nepal Fashion Week 2009 at the Yak & Yeti Hotel on Thursday with menswear making its first appearance. Beef and brawn vied for attention alongside svelte delicate curves on a day that featured established brand names as opposed to the up and coming talent of the first three days.
Among the celebrity guests adding that extra dose of glamour, the most conspicuous was Fresh Face Miss India 2009 Deeksha Seth. Real life couple Vijay Shrestha the actor and model cum TV presenter Richa as well as the two directors of Mona Lisa were the other celebrities to grace the ramp.
The show kicked off with designer Kushboo Dangol’s collection entitled Chhabi Image of Women showcasing flowing full length gowns glittering with metallic embellishments that raised a toast to feminine grace. Up next was Mona Lisa’s formal menswear collection with sharp cuts and sober colours making a style statement that was undoubtedly all male. Playful designs in cheerful colours topped with tiaras epitomised the Doll’s House sequence.
Indian Terrain made a strong impact with its rugged collection of semiformals and more laidback casual wear with emphasis on cool breezy menswear. With recycled fabrics as its USP, Patterns of Life The Applique boasted of an impressive range of variations.
By far the most exotic collection of the evening was Linen Folklore from Linen Club evoking memories of a bygone era. Delving into the pages of history, the collection conjured up visions of gypsies, ancient Egypt and Greek grandeur amidst rustic robes and imaginative combinations.
The curiously-titled Novel Essence of Vogue played up the drama element in churning out intricate designs replete with frills and ruffles. From kurtas to bermudas and sherwanis to printed shirts, the final collection Flamboyance Wear from Linen Club took on the ambitious task of appealing to a man’s every mood and pulled off a commendable job.
