KATHMANDU: A plethora of celebrities ignited the ramp on the third day of TGIF Nepal Fashion Week 2009 at the Yak and Yeti Hotel on Wednesday leaving the audience gasping for more. From celebrated DJs to distinguished actresses and established singers, there seemed to be no end to the celebrity guest list, putting the lovely models to the shade.
As varied as the celebrities were the intriguing themes with the Summer of 69 kicking off the proceedings of what was to become a star studded evening. Accompanied by a scintillating selection of music and captivating lighting, themes like Shagun, Evening Vintage, Flower Power, Quilts, Whyte-Lie, Barbie Goes to the Bazar and A Walk with Time came to life with eclectic designs, feel-good fabrics and enticing embellishments.
Among the actresses joining the models on the runway were the likes of Rejina Uprety, Richa Ghimire, Namrata Shrestha and Una Uprety. Actress-cum-model Namrata Shrestha and choreographer Renasha Rai hit the ramp to revv up publicity for their highly anticipated cinematic release Mero Euta Saathi Cha. Other celebrities ranged from singer Ciney Gurung to VJ and music video director Sangita Shrestha and the popular DJ-cum-producer Yuva.
Sangita Shrestha the veteran director of music videos was all praise for the vivacity and effervescence of the models. She had already started scouting for potential faces for future music videos. For her, returning to the ramp after a gap of seven years was a trip down the nostalgia lane, back to the days when she was just another unknown face struggling for recognition until lady luck chose to favour her.
The sole male presence on the ramp, DJ Yuva revealed that his only previous appearance on the ramp was in Germany. He expressed appreciation for the local models who are undoubtedly improving in leaps and bounds to hold their own against international models.
