Nepal, India agree to print border maps

New Delhi, September 1:

Government officials from Nepal and India today agreed to print the maps of both the countries except that of Kalapani and Susta.

A joint meeting of survey officials from Nepal and India that started in Deharadun on Thursday decided to print 19 out of 182 maps verified by the meeting. The officials are yet to agree on Kalapani and Susta border.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Survey Rajaram Chhatkuli, who led the Nepali team, said: “All the maps except that of Kalapani and Susta have been prepared.”

“Other maps which were selected as per the agreement will be printed soon,” he said, adding that the maps will be made public after they are printed.

Joint secretary-level meeting of both the countries held a few months ago in New Delhi had agreed to exchange the documents on Kalapani and Susta to resolve the border dispute.

The meeting of joint secretaries of both the countries to be held in Kathmandu next month will discuss the issues related to Kalapani and Susta, Chhatkuli said, adding, some 8,000 poles have been re-established in the Dasgaja area along the Nepal-India border. “As the maps are prepared in scientific way, there will be no border dispute and if any dispute arises, it will be settled on the basis of maps immediately,” he said.
