KATHMANDU: The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has asked the government to provide more than Rs 1 billion in order to attract foreign tourists in and around the Pashupatinath Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, by developing necessary infrastructure there.
A meeting of the PADT’s performance appraisal committee decided to ask the government for Rs 1 billion and 3.6 million to develop urgently-needed infrastructure, according to the PADT.

BHAKTAPUR: Police rounded up a four-member ring involved in cheating people by promising them US dollars for Nepali rupees at a cheaper exchange rate, from Nikosera, Madhyapur Thimi, yesterday.

KATHMANDU: It seems the Mahasen Cyclone in the Bay of Bengal has had a slight affect in the weather pattern of the Kathmandu Valley as the temperature has remained below normal for the past few days, said the Weather Forecasting Division.

KATHMANDU: In a first in the Kathmandu Valley, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division and its 33 units yesterday nabbed 3,800 drivers for violating traffic rules and fined them Rs 1,000 each.
It was the highest number of drivers facing music on a single day in the valley for violating rules, officials said. Of the offenders, 75 drivers were driving under the influence of alcohol, while others were caught violating lane discipline, seat belt rules, pick-up and drop rules, and traffic signals.

KATHMANDU: Police on Saturday briefly detained Samjhana Basnet (36) of Makhan Tole and two others on charge of manhandling on-duty traffic cops.
Police said the traffic personnel intercepted a scooter at Putalisadak Chowk at around 8:15 am after they saw two persons on the pillion ride, and sought the blue book and license from Basnet who was riding the two-wheeler.

KATHMANDU: A police team from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Boudhha carried out a raid at a gambling den in Patitar near Bouddha of Kathmandu, and picked up six persons on the charge of gambling and operating the illegal business.
