KATHMANDU: Laxmi Sahani, who suffered burns after setting herself on fire, died at the Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital on Sunday. According to police, Laxmi and her husband Mukesh of Rautahat had set themselves on fire at their rented room in Jorpati at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. Mukesh has been undergoing treatment at the Patan hospital. Police said they are investigating the incident.
Fatal fall from hotel
KATHMANDU: Ebovan Eok (23), a Dutch national, felll to death from the sixth floor of the Thamel-based Great Wall Internation Hotel on Saturday. Police said a probe into the incident involving the paying guest is underway, even as an official said it will be too early to say if it is a suicide or a homicide. Police have sent the body to the Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital in the Capital for a post-mortem.
Bandh callers held
KATHMANDU: Police on Sunday arrested Bidur Bharati, Bharati president of the Nepal Dashnami Sanyasi National Committee, and Kumar Rokka for distributing pamphlets calling on people to make their Nepal bandh, scheduled for April 12, a success. In the pamphlets, the Dashnami Sanyasi community has demanded that the new constitution should enlist them as an ethnic community. Police also impounded a motorcycle during its action.
BHAKTAPUR: Laxmi Manandhar, a 20-month-old daughter of Jiban Manandhar, a labourer at a kiln at Nangkhel in Bhaktapur, drowned in a pothole on the kiln premises on Sunday. According to police, the incident occurred at around 10 am when the girl was playing around.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member and Constituent Assembly (CA) member Nabindra Raj Joshi unveiled the statue of martyr Nirgun Sthapit at Batakha tole, Kathmandu, on Saturday. Nirguna had obtained martyrdom in the historical Jana Andolan (People’s Movement) in 1990. Sthapit family installed the statue of martyr Nirguna, said NC, Kathmandu Ward 19 President Shashilal Shrestha. While speaking at the statue-unveiling programme, Constituent Assembly member Joshi, NC Kathmandu district president Bhimsen Das Pradhan and district committee former secretary Rajuraj Joshi highlighted the contributions of martyr in the People’s Movement for democracy.
