Evoking emotions through poetry

KATHMANDU: “Arun’s poems are amazing having intensity, depth and drama in them. I am feeling proud to introduce another poet in the galaxy of Nepali literature who has so much passion in his work,” expressed renowned poet Yuyutsu RD Sharma, after launching Edge, a poetry collection by emerging Nepali poet Arun Budhathoki (Daniel Song) at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Exhibition Road on January 24.

“I was stunned by whole energy and vitality in his confessional poems,” shared Sharma at the book launch organised by a literary journal The Applicant in collaboration with Patmos Media Pvt Ltd and NTB.

“Edge is partly influenced by confessional poet Sylvia Plath. And I chose the title of this poetry collection from one of her poems called Edge,” Budhathoki shared about his book.

Twenty-five years old Budhathoki, who has completed his Master’s Level in International Relations from The University of Northampton, UK further revealed, “I had never intended to become a poet but I am feeling good at the moment after launching my poetry collection.”

There are a total of 57 poems in Edge, and the poet plans to launch another collection in near future as he “has collection of other unpublished poems .”

“I feel Edge will serve as the foundation for me to launch another book very soon.”

Sharma also recited two poems Your Face Is The Shadow and On Their Fractured Shoulder From the collection.

As per Sharma, Budhathoki’s poetry deals with general topics like future, love, joy, depression and smoking among others.

The book has been published by Cyberwit, India.
