KATHMANDU: Italians have never lost to Germans in seven previous meetings at World Cup or European Championship.
But Germans have lost to Italians three times.
Most of the games between them have also ended in a draw in World Cup finals and European Championships.
They are meeting once again at Euro 2012 semi-final in Warsaw on Friday Nepali time (00:30am).
They met in a World Cup qualifier in 1962 with the game ending in a draw. They met at the World Cup in Germany six years ago and Italy scored a 2-0 victory over German. In the year 1970 World Cup semifinals and in the final of 1982, Italy triumphed over West Germany.
To be more precise, Italy holds a record of 14-7 in 30 matches against the Germans, with nine draws.
Will German set record?
In August, Germany trounced Brazil for the first time in past 18 years, winning 3-2 in a friendly match.
They also beat the Netherlands 3-0 in a friendly and 2-1 in the group stage of Euro 2012.
Germany also defeated England 4-1 and Argentina 4-0, at the 2010 World Cup.
“For years we could not beat the big nations, but then we beat England, Argentina, the Netherlands and Brazil. Now, it's Italy’s turn to fall,” German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger told to AP.
Schweinsteiger has delivered blow 23 times in his 94 internationals.
Italy entered semis after they beat England 4-2 on penalties in Sunday's quarter-final, while German is into semifinals after having a 4-2 quarter-final win over Greece last Friday.
Though Italy have scored only four goals in the championship, Italian midfielders have been widely praised, especially the grandeur of Andrea Pirlo.
