KATHMANDU: Uttam Singh Kathayat of Children Heaven School claimed the first Pioneer Inter-school Chess Tournament here on Saturday. Uttam was tied on five points with Dinesh BK of Bal Uddhar but got the better off in tiebreaker. Bikram Tamang of Reliance, Manang Rai of Tara Sadan, Nayan Khakurel of Reliance, Pemba Sherpa of Tara Sadan and Sandesh Katuwal of Pioneer rounded up in the top seven respectively after they were tied on four point.
Sahaj, Sina triumph
KATHMANDU: Sahaj Shakya of Shuvatara won the first Inter-school Triathlon Championship here on Saturday. Sahaj completed 400m swimming in 6:57 minutes, timed 27:30 minutes in 10km cycling and clocked 12:13 seconds in the 2.5km race for the best overall time of 47:05 minutes. His closest rival Sirish Gurung of Kendriya Vidyalaya was 31 seconds adrift. Sirish clocked 5:34 minutes in swimming, 29:17 in cycling and 12:45 in running. Uzir Raj Thapa of Woodstock ended up third with 5:34, 29:17 and 12:23 in the three events respectively for an overall time of 49:39 minutes. The only participant in the girls’ section Sina Mathema of The British School finished with an overall time of 1 hour 10:15 minutes.
Nepal crash out
KATHMANDU: Both the Nepali teams crashed out from the group stage of the 3x3 World Championships in Greece on Friday. The men's team lost to Czech Republic 21-11 in their fourth match, while the women's team went down to Greece 22-5. Both the teams lost their all four matches and stay bottom of the table. The men's team consisted of Robin Khatri, Sadish Pradhan, Rajeev Joshi and Binod Maharjan, while the women's team included Sadina Shrestha, Luniva Singh, Samichin Bista and Sneha Shrestha.
