KATHMANDU: The Public Affairs Office of the US Embassy on Thursday released a statement applauding the UCPN-Maoist decision to hand over the keys to the arms containers to the Special Committee, as reported on Wednesday.
The statement described the move as a promising step and hoped it would signal the commitment of the UCPN-M to continue moving forward to complete the peace process. It also noted that to do so, however, will require that the UML, the Nepali Congress, and all other political actors respond with similar flexibility and constructive commitment to finally bring the Nepali people the peace and prosperity they seek and deserve.
However it was earlier reported today that Maoist secretary CP Gajurel denied the reports of the keys handover and declared that it would only be done after the modality of the integration and regrouping process of the Maoist combatants was finalised
