KATHMANDU: The Central Committee meeting of CPN-UML on Tuesday decided that Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal will not resign till the concrete basis for national consensus is built up.

According to a press statement released by party secretary Yubaraj Gyawali, the meeting, however, approved general secretary Ishwor Pokharel's political document forwarded to it by the party's politburo with minor changes.

The party also decided to exhibit maximum flexibility for national consensus for extension of the CA term.

In the meeting, 53 CC members aired their views and suggestions.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister and party chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that conducive environment is building up regarding the peace and constitution drafting processes following a major policy shift by the UCPN-Maoist of late. However, he alleged that rightist forces are trying to destabilise the country by plotting to dissolve the CA

He also claimed that very few issues have been left unresolved regarding the constitution.

The meeting also endorsed the proposals regarding establishment of party cadres protection fund and party office building construction.

The next meeting has been scheduled for May 31.

The politburo meeting yesterday had concluded that maximum flexibility was necessary in order to forge agreement for the extension of Constituent Assembly, suggesting that Prime Minister Khanal, also the party chairman, had to give up the prime ministerial post if need be.
