KATHMANDU: Top leaders of two major political parties have agreed to federate the country into 11 different provinces.
Top leaders of UCPN (Maoist) and CPN (UML)--made a theoretical agreement to this effect at a meeting held today.
Talking briefly to journalists after the meeting, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said, "Most probably the parties would agree to federate the country into 11 different states."
Likewise, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said the dialogue with the Maoist party was positive and the parties have reached near consensus.
Maoist Vice-chairman and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, another Vice-chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam were also present during the talks.
