KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee meeting of the Unified CPN-Maoist held at party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat has come up with the conclusion that the Supreme Court’s verdict issued yesterday is wrong.
The meeting also decided to be flexible over the names of the states if the other parties agreed with the 10 or 14 pradeshes as proposed by their party and the State Restructuring Commission earlier respectively. Meanwhile, they reiterated that they would not accept the federalism sans identity.
Emerging from the meeting, UCPN-M Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who is also the Deputy Prime Minster, said that they will not accept the New Constitution sans identity-based federalism.
It is learnt that the party also mulled over the resignation tendered by the Nepali Congress General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and NC CA member Surya Man Gurung during the meeting. United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) opposed the decision, challenging that they will not accept the constitution sans federalism based on identity.
