KATHMANDU: All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) aligned to UCPN-Maoist today suspended Bina Magar from its central committee membership and also from the post of Revolutionary Free Students’ Union (FSU) Council coordinator for her ‘illicit relationship’ with Prakash Dahal, son of UCPN-M Chairperson, Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The UCPN-M politburo meeting had suspended Dahal from the party’s Newa State Committee yesterday.

Magar was the FSU president of Saraswoti Multiple Campus, while her husband Shankar Adhikari of Surkhet is a member of the central committee of ANNISU-R.

Prakash and Bina had scaled Mt Everest together. Prakash is married to Srijana Tripathi and has a son from her.

An ANNISU-R press statement said the organisation was shocked to find that the duo had been out of contact with the family since the last five days. “At a time when the media is disseminating news about their ‘illicit relationship’, Magar not coming into contact to defend herself, has raised doubts that she violated cultural norms and values,” reads the statement.

It further said that ANNISU-R would be internally investigating violation of the organisation’s discipline and cultural norms and other issues.
