KATHMANDU: The seventh extended meeting of the Unified CPN-Maoist concluded today with a decision to dissolve all committees and turn its existing central committee into the first national convention organising committee.
The five-day gathering formed a central office comprising party chairman, vice-chairmen and secretary. The political document endorsed by the meeting will get full shape by the upcoming national convention scheduled for mid-February 2013.
The national convention organising committee will include women, Dalit, Muslim, Madhesi, deprived regions and senior leaders. All dissolved lower committees will form their conference organising committees.
The meeting decided to exchange secretariat members of both chairman and vice-chairmen and also that decisions will be taken by the party instead of an individual leader.
A financial committee and an accounts committee will be formed at the centre. All movable and immovable properties of the chairman and vice-chairmen will be handed over to the Financial Committee, which will distribute them when the need arises.
Dahal declared he would hand over all his properties to the party including his Lazimpat mansion and the vehicle he has been using. Dahal will use the residence facility the government provides for former prime ministers.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai said the party will now end factionalism and be united. He said Nepal cannot copy the armed struggle of the Chinese model or armed revolt of the Russian model. He admitted the government had failed to work as per people's aspirations and committed mistake while deciding on army integration. Bhattarai said he would try to correct past mistakes and work for respectable army integration. Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha focused on the importance of national independence for communists.
