RAJBIRAJ: A herd of wild elephants from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve has destroyed a dozen houses in Kanchanpur and Badgama in Saptari.
As many as six tuskers entered human settlements and destroyed houses on Tuesday morning. The tuskers destroyed four houses belonging to Gafur Miya, one house of Jakir Miya of Kanchanpur VDC one house belonging to Bindu Chaudhary and one house belonging to Shiva Narayan Matiyar of Badgama 8 and 4 respectively. Likewise, one house each belonging to Kuseswor Raut and Shyam Khadka were also destroyed.
The wild elephants destroyed one quintal paddy and two quintals wheat belonging to Gafur Miya and 200 kg paddy on Shyam Khadka’s land. The tuskers destroyed crops worth one million rupees in the villages. The herd also destroyed the wall of Gauribaba Dihibar in Kanchanpur, said locals.
Shyam Kumar Paswan said villagers were terrified after the tuskers entered villages and destroyed houses. He added that villagers had not slept for the last one week due to fear of elephant attack. Earlier, the tuskers had destroyed as many as 10 houses in Kamalpur VDC on Sunday.
