TULSIPUR: A group of unidentified assailants shot dead the president of Radio Tulsipur FM, Devi Prasad Dhital alias Hemraj, at Jashpur of Urhari VDC-4 of Dang district at around 7: 30 p.m. Thursday evening.
Dhital sustained three bullets in his chest during the attack. Fatally injured, Dhital was rushed to Rapti Zonal Hospital in Tulsipur for treatment. Dhital succumbed to his injuries, hospital sources said.
Dhital, who hails from Belagnar of the same VDC, was attacked by the assailants, some four or five in number, while he was returning from Urhari in the western Dang. He had gone there for some work.
Police has launched a massive manhunt to track down the culprits who fled the scene immediately after the incident. No body has been arrested as yet. No one has claimed the responsibility for the attack. Also the motive behind the attack is not immediately known.
A contender for the candidacy of NC’s General Convention representative, Dhital had been frequently visiting Jashpur for canvassing, of late. In the past, he had also separately served in the capacity of president for Rapti Transport Entrepreneurs’ Committee and the Lions Club, the Tulsipur chapter.
Only some time ago, Police Superintendent of Police of the district police office, Thakur Gyawali, organising a press conference, had claimed there had been a significant improvement in the security situation of the district.
