RAJBIRAJ: The Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM), an armed outfit operating with its stated aim of welfare of the Terai people, declared the relinquishment of arms for good on Saturday.
Rajiv Jha alias Utkarsha, chairman of the JTMM, made the declaration amid a press conference in Rajbiraj this morning.
Elaborating on the decision to lay down arms, Jha said that ‘status quotist’ armed revolts are losing grounds, of late, and that there is a need to revamp the Terai revolt in a scientific way.
The decision to give up arms became inevitable after assessing the Madhes people’s aspiration for a peaceful revolt, Jha said, adding that his outfit would however continue dialogue with the government.
The JTMM, which came in the open in January 2007 from Lahan, held the first round of talks with the government talks team headed by the then peace and reconstruction minister, Janardan Sharma.
Similarly, it held the sixth and last round of the dialogue with Rakam Chemjong, the peace and reconstruction minister in the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led government in Ferbruary 2010.
