SURKHET: The number of Tuberculosis (TB) patients has been found to have been steadily rising in the mid-western development region.
In the past eight months alone, 1,349 new cases of TB infection was found, the mid-western regional health directorate has said.
The highest number of new TB patients was detected in Banke during the period. Mycobacteria that causes most cases of TB were found in 310 persons in Banke alone. Likewise, 300 were detected in Dang, 207 in Bardia and 133 in Surkhet.
Among the districts in the region, only one new case was found in Dolpa while 90 cases were detected in Pyuthan, 73 in Rolpa, 62 in Salyan, 55 in Rukum, 47 in Dailekh and 26 in Jajarkot, according to Officer at the Directorate, Mahesh Kumar Puri.
Regular dose of medicine can cure the disease, and for this 180 Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course (DOTS) centres have been established in the mid-west region, the Directorate has said. RSS
