KATHMANDU: Beautician Sumitra Shrestha won the Sunsilk Bridal Make-up and Hairdo competition 2012 along with taking home the Best Personality Award at the said competition held on July 5 at Hotel Radisson.
Sophie Sunuwar was the first runner-up and Amrita Shrestha the second runner-up.
Saundarya Kala Byabasayi Sangh had organised the event to create a platform for beauticians and give an idea about what’s going on in the beauty world.
The event began with Panche Baja with Malina Joshi, Miss Nepal 2011, inside a doli as a bride while all participant beauticians followed her. A total of 36 beauticians had taken part in the competition that was conducted in three thematic rounds namely Himal, Pahad and Terai.
And the models displayed the significant features of people living in these three regions through make-up, attire and accessories.
Beauty expert Dolly Singh and actress Richa Sharma were the judges. They based their judgements on the full make-up applied on models, appearance of models including clothing and accessories according to theme.
Singh said, “Confidence was extremely good and the beauticians have done an excellent job.”
Prasant Tamrakar who had choreographed the models added, “This is a platform for beauticians to show respect for their work. I believe this kind of platform can uplift their profession. I was stunned to see original attires from different regions.”
Renditions of songs like Sustari and Kasto Kasto Hudo Rahecha Maya by singer Shreya Sotang and dance choreographed by Renasha Rai made the event more
Organised for the third time, this time the organisers “added five more titles other than the main title. This time we all had a training for personality development,” as per Kamala Shrestha, President of Saundarya Kala Byabasayi Sangh.
