BHAIRAHAWA: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha by a special helicopter of the Nepal Army with his team on the second day of his visit on Friday. Chief District Officer of the Rupandehi welcomed the team of the President in Lumbini. The security in the area has been tightened for the course of the visit.
According to sources, the President will spend an hour for prayers and then he is scheduled to inaugurate the Buddha Vihar constructed by the Sri Lanka economic assistance. Then he will return to Kathmandu at 3.30 pm.
Likewise, Rajapaksa will meet President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, DPM and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala and other senior officials. He had earlier met UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday evening. In March, he had cut short his trip to Nepal due to an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan.
