ITAHARI: A police head constable who was reportedly depressed after being rejected by a female colleague allegedly committed suicide on Sunday night, sources said.
Head constable Bhakta Shrestha of Sunsari’s Pakali-based Armed Police Siddhakali Battalion was reportedly killed after grabbing the pistol carried by the female colleague. He had proposed the female head constable for long.
“We heard them talking when they were on duty at 8.45 pm yesterday,” adding, “After some time a blast was heard. By the time we reached the incident site we found that Bhakta was already dead.”
The death of head constable Bhakta appears to be mysterious even though it was termed as a ‘suicide’ case. Experts believe that it was impossible to kill oneself by the bullet hit from the pistol like SLR.
According to another source, “The incident might have been a murder, and not suicide as the case has been projected.”
Police looking into the case said, “The female police with whom Bhakta was involved in discussion was also injured. They might have quarreled first. Later, the female police might have hit the bullet.” Nepal Police have been investigating the case inside the Armed Police headquarters.
DIG of Armed Police Force Eastern Headquarters, Singh Bahadur Shrestha said that he got the information about Bhakta who killed himself after snatching the SLR from his female colleague.
Terming Bhakta’s killing as mysterious DIG Shrestha said, “The incident might be personal.” He said details would be made public within two-three days as some female police officers were eye witness to the incident.
