NAIROBI: A Kenyan police spokesman says an al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group has killed at least 30 Kenyan civilians since Kenyan troops entered Somalia.
Eric Kiraithe said Saturday the killings are believed to have been carried out by sympathizers of the Somali insurgent group al-Shabab since October in Kenya. Police say that tens of Kenyan youth have been recruited by al-Shabab and are operating in the country.
Kenya blames the militant group for several kidnappings, including those of four Europeans on Kenyan soil. Soon after Kenya's military incursion, al-Shabab vowed to bring down skyscrapers in Kenya's capital. Al-Qaida announced earlier this month that it was merging with al-Shabab.
