KANCHANPUR: Number of swamp deer has increased by 345 in Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve this year as compared to last year.
According to the census conducted on the occasion of 18th Wildlife Week, the swamp deer population has been found reaching 2,170 this year as against 1,825 of last year.
Among them, 550 are males, 1,280 females, and 385 are fawns, said Yubaraj Regmi, Chief of the Reserve Office.
The number goes up as the reserve has managed sufficient grassland, strong security, and control of deer smuggling, among others, Regmi told RSS.
A team of 25 technicians counted the number of swamp deer for three days beginning from April 15.
