PALPA: A rally was organised in Rampur, Palpa today demanding a broader Kali Gandaki state comprising parts of Palpa, Syangja, Tanahun, Nawalparasi, Arghakhanchi, Gulmi, Parbat and Baglung.
The rally, which was taken out at the initiative of Palpa FNCCI, traversed through different places of Rampur before it converted into a mass meeting at Bejhad Bazaar. Local leaders of various political parties, including the Unified CPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, teachers, civil society members and others from Palpa, Syangja, Tanahun and Nawalparasi had participated in the rally.
Speakers at the mass meeting alleged that political leaders were trying to federate the country in such a way that it would inflict more pain on the people who have already suffered a lot. “They (the leaders) are not for facilitating rapid development of the country,” they said.
UML Palpa district committee secretariat member Lekhnath Pokharel said the agitation calling for broader Kali Gandaki state will continue until their demand was fulfilled. To intensify the agitation, a 101-member Broader Kali Gandaki State Struggle Committee has been formed.
