KATHMANDU: Save the Children has concluded a five-day workshop, administering training to 25 government officials representing various government sectors including Ministry of Health and Population on Human Resources for Health (HRH) management on Friday.

The INGO has conducted training on HRH management in order to tackle the existing dire shortage of skilled manpower and their distribution which is further multiplied by low productivity and rampant absenteeism, marring the 31,000 strong workforce.

“There are just 0.29 health workers for 1000 people, significantly less than the WHO recommendation of 2.3,” said Save the Children in a statement issued today.

Addressing the closing session, Save the Children Country Director for Nepal Brian J Hunter said, “The problems on Nepal’s Human Resources for Health (HRH) clearly emanate from problems in management and the lack of political will to resolve them.”
