KATHMANDU: The government relieved SSP Rabi Raj Shrestha from his duties for his involvement in the smuggling of foreign currencies at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
On the recommendation of the Nepal Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs took decision to sack the senior police official today.
Taking advantage of his position, Shrestha was found to be involved in ferrying cache of foreign currencies to a smuggler at the country’s only international airport, last October.
Binod Kumar Soni (35) was held with illegal currencies with face value of Rs 12.4 million on board a Fly Dubai plane.

Nepal Police Headquarters had formed the investigation panel after police employees were found involved in assisting the smuggler to sneak the illegal money into TIA.
Police Head Constable Shobit Karki, Shrestha’s driver, who had directly helped Soni to evade security check points at the TIA to take the money into the plane, has already sent to the legal custody.
