BHAKTAPUR: SOS Hermann Gmeiner, St Xavier's School, Graded English Medium School (GEMS) and St Xavier’s made it to the quarter-finals of the third TVS Cup Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament, organised by Madyapur Youth Association, here today.
SOS edged past Siddhartha Vanasthali 3-2 in tiebreaker after a goalless draw in normal time. Nischal Gaire, Sanjay Thapa and Bibek Shrestha converted the penalty kicks while Rejin Thapa and man-of-the-match Tek Lamshal missed for SOS. Only Sunil Lama and Karma Lama scored for Vanasthali while Sunil Bhandari, Sujan Khatri and Suman Lama all missed the spot kicks.
In the second match of the day, GEMS hammered Nexus International Academy 5-0. Bishesh Joshi opened the goal scoring spree in the first minute before Bijay Bhusal doubled the lead in the 15th minute. Man-of-the-match Atul Gautam then completed the rout scoring a hat-trick (25, 47, 62).
St Xavier's eased to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Marigold English School in the day's last match. Man-of-the-match Bibek Pradhan completed hat-trick scoring in the first, 29th and 37th minute. Tejeswi KC added another in the 42nd minute to wrap up the match.
Rajan Memorial English School will face Ram Bhakta Memorial English School, Adarsha Secondary School will meet Binayak Sikchhya Niketan and Belor International Academy will take on Gurukul Public School on Wednesday.
