KATHMANDU: The Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE), Sanothimi is making final preparations to publish the results of School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams on Tuesday.

A board meeting of the OCE officials kicked off at 9 am this morning.

The result of the most anticipated exam of the year will be declared amidst a press conference at OCE later in the afternoon.

Just yesterday, Education Secretary Som Lal Subedi, who is also the chairman of Secondary Exam Pass Committee, had visited the OCE to inquire about progress in the matter.

Once the results are published, they can be viewed at

It is stated that the OCE has increased the capacity of its website this year and the results could be accessed at more than seven different Internet sites and through SMS.

According to OCE, from this year it is not publishing the results in newspapers, breaking the old tradition.

Deputy Examination Controller Pralhad Aryal said the OCE took this decision as publishing the results in newspapers entailed extra financial burden and as the website and the Internet services itself was more effective in disseminating the results.

The exams were held from March 14 to 22 this year.

Rules have it that the OCE should publish SLC results within 90 days of completion of the exams. The OCE had claimed that it will not take more than 90 days to come out with the results.

A total of 547,165 students — 430,097 from regular category and 117,067 examinees from exempted category — had appeared in the exams.

As per the directives related to SLC examinations, students, who have failed in two subjects, can be granted five grace marks if they can pass the exams.

Last year, the OCE had published result on June 13.
