KATHMANDU: The Russian Day of Family, Love and Faith was marked in the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in the Capital today.

The newest Russian public holiday, was set up in 2008 at the initiative of the Russian city of Murom, supported by then first lady Svetlana Medvedeva.

The celebration was organised by the centre together with the Association of Russian compatriots in Nepal” with the active involvement of its Chair Alla Sharma, the centre said in a statement today.

This holiday is highly appreciated both by Russian state officials and citizens because it promotes values that are true to any society — family, faith, love, rearing of children and mutual understanding.

Russian orthodox saints Peter and Fevronia are considered to be patrons of this holiday, protectors of family and marriage.
