BUTWAL: Nearly 50 per cent homes in Rupandehi district lack toilet facilities.
A survey recently conducted by the District Water Supply and Sanitation Sub-division Office, Rupandehi shows that only half of the total 1,107,856 homes in the district have toilets.
According to the survey, only 58,214 homes in the district have modern toilets, 11,485 homes have general toilets and 46,615 homes have pit latrines.
The total population of Rupandehi district as per the 2001 census is 7,048,819.
An official at the District Water Supply and Sanitation Sub-division Office said that although 92 per cent of the district's population has access to drinking water only 50 per cent has toilets at their homes.
Similarly, only 10 per cent homes at 25 Village Development Committees (VDCs) in the district have toilets
. A detailed study in this connection was carried out in all the VDCs in the district in 2012. There are 69 VDCs and two municipalities in the district.
