Tension ran high in the temple after the non-Chaudhary devotees were not allowed to perform pooja yesterday.

RAUTAHAT: At least seven people were injured after two communities clashed in Simara Bhawanipur of the district after members of the Chaudhary community prevented women from other communities to perform annual rituals of Asare Pooja at the Brahmasthan Temple on Thursday night.

At the local temple, Gopal Chaudhary is serving as the priest for the Chaudhary community, and Surendra Mali for other communities.

Tension ran high in the temple after the non-Chaudhary devotees were not allowed to perform pooja yesterday.

The victims claimed that members of other communities were attacked as they went to the temple to discuss the matter and mediate after they heard about the bar on pooja.

Police said two persons --Birendra Chaudhary and Sohan Chaudhary-- have been held in connection with the incident.

Last month, members of upper caste had attacked a settlement of Chamars following their differences over the so-called lower caste people entering a local temple.
