Raid at Venus casino nabs 15 Nepalis

KATHMANDU: Police carried out a raid at Lainchour-based Venus Casino of Malla Hotel late Friday evening.

During the raid, police arrested 15 Nepalis including three women red-handed while gambling.

Existing laws bar Nepalis from entering casinos.

The identities of the arrestees are yet to be established.

They will be charged under the Gambling Act- 1963, police said.

Ofcourse gambling is an addiction which will ultimately ruin anybody. But as for as Tourism is concerned, casinos may be a neccessary evil, as it attracts more tourists. So to maintain balance, conduct more and more raids so that a local doesnot spoil his life. But for a tourist it may be occasional and ma also have some extra money to loose! But in my many visits, I have seen more Indians gambling and next to them are chinese and very less europeans. Ramesh, UAE

This is kind of stupid. Either close the casinos or let everybody gamble - Nepali or foreigner. Let the people decide gambling is for fun or stupidity. Shree Shrestha, Madison, WI, USA
