KATHMANDU: Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reporter Sushil Darnal has been honoured for his contribution to the welfare of the martyrs' families through media.


RSS correspondent Darnal, Nepal Television reporter Aarati Chataut, singer JB Tuhure, Avenues TV reporter Shanker Khanal, Sagarmatha TV correspondent Sarala Gurung, Muna Acharya of Mountain TV, Sudarshan Sigdel of the Gokarna National Martyrs' Park, Meghraj Acharya from among the injured persons in the People's Movement II, media workers Gopal Baraili among others were honored amid a programme organised by the Martyr Pratik Memorial Centre, on Saturday.


Speaking at the programme Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Kedarnath Upadhya said it is a great insult to martyrs due to the government's and the political parties' irresponsible behavior and stressed on the need of making the definite criteria for the declaration of Martyrs by people instead of the government and the state.


Similarly, CPN-UML leader Prakash Jwala said the state should fairly identify the martyrs, adding the real martyrs' dignity was shadowed when the martyrs were declared without any criteria and definition.



Coordinator of the High Level Task Force on Criteria and Definition of Martyrs and Politburo member of the Unified CPN-Maoist, Navaraj Subedi, said the task force is going to submit its report to the government regarding the criteria and definition of martyrs within a week.


Nepali Congress leader Krishna Chandra Nepali, rights activist Charan Prasain, progressive singer Tuhure, office-bearer of Federation of Nepalese Journalists Prakash Chandra Pariyar, among other speakers, suggested that the state should declare martyrs as per the criteria and definition of martyrs.
