KATHMANDU: Just ahead of some hours for the Constituent Assembly (CA) term expiry, different groups have chanted slogans and staged protests for and against the ethnicity federalism before the CA building in New Baneshwor.
Different organisations and ethnic groups are demanding identity-based federalism while the other groups are for national integrity and ethnic goodwill in the new constitution.
National Integrity and Ethnic Goodwill Joint Struggle Committee has demonstrated against federalising the country based on ethnicity. A rally reached New Baneshwor through different parts of the city.
Coordinator of the Committee Dil Bahadur Chhetri said that agitations were needed as the Marxist leaders were conspiring to split the country by delineating the states based on ethnicity.
Meanwhile, general secretary of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Angkaji Sherpa said the government must implement the 9-point deal signed with the indigenous groups during the three-day general strike. Shrepa was of the opinion that state restructuring without ethnic identity was not acceptable to them.
