"We will be holding corner assemblies‚ torch rallies‚ and street protests from June 19-July 9."

KATHMANDU: Oppositions, being riled by the incumbent Baburam Bhattarai administration, have vowed together over again today to escalate their protests against the government and Maoists, of which the premier is the vice-chairman of the UCPN-Maoist.

In the meeting convened at the UML headquarters, Balkhu on Saturday, twenty-seven opposition parties, while discussion ways to deal with the post-Constituent Assembly scenario, decided to keep their team intact and reiterated that until Prime Minister Bhattarai who announced the fresh polls to elect a new CA, put in his papers, the environment to forge consensus among the political actors is far off.

We have decided to intensify our protest and agitations. We will be holding corner assemblies, torch rallies, and street protests from June 19-July 9, said a NC leader.

Today’s meeting also smelt rat over PM’s upcoming visit to Brazil, where he is scheduled to attend the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (‘Rio+20’), to be held in Rio de Janeiro on June 20-22.

He should have focus on forging consensus rather than making foreign trips at this state of hour. So we decided to protest his visit as well, further said the NC leader.

A three-member protest committee compromising UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel , NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, and RPP General Secretary Dipak Bohar, have also been formed to turn their protest programs into a success.
