KATHMANDU: Culture expert Satyamohan Joshi has said that economic progress is impossible without the development of literature, art and music.
Speaking at a felicitation programme of the Sahitya Sandhya yesterday, Joshi said there is a need to promote the country’s art, culture and music.
On the occasion, Madan prize laureate Joshi honoured progressive singer Sanu Pahadi with a cash award of Rs 10,000. Singer Pahadi, who has been struggling for life due to renal failure, is also living with ailments in her uterus and eyes.
Dr Bharat Bahadur Karki and littérateur Shishu Devkota were also felicitated on the occasion. At the felicitation programme, Vice-chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Ganga Prasad Upreti, and leader of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist Surendra Pandey appealed to all political parties to rise above partisan interests.
