CPN (UML) leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari suggested giving the leadership of the government to the Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: Political advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Devendra Paudel has said that time has not come for the prime minister to step down.

Paudel said that the prime minister will not give resignation from his post at present as no reliable basis has been made for the formation of a national consensus government.

Speaking at an interaction organized in the Capital today, he urged the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML to join the government led by Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and opined that this government could be transformed into a national consensus government.

Paudel further said this government was not formed on the basis of an agreement among the UCPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML to run it in rational system, but formed on the basis of the four-point agreement.

CPN (UML) leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari suggested giving the leadership of the government to the Nepali Congress reasoning that the UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN (UML) have each led the government two times following the formation of the Constituent Assembly.

He demanded that Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai should step down and pave the way for the formation of a government of national unity. He added that the UML would not be a hindrance to the formation of such a government.

Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal, Upendra Yadav, stressed that there should be immediate consensus on the contentious issues of the constitution writing like federalism, the election system and the forms of governance.

He alleged that the big parties were focused only on the formation of the government by neglecting the peace and the constitution writing process.
